The Division of Academic Enhancement presents a series of academic workshops on various topics throughout the year. The following is our current schedule of workshops:

Sept. 20 [6:00pm] Balance Your Time—Organize Your Semester, Russell Academic Center (RAC) Room 395—Presenter / Host: Keith Allen, Academic Enhancement
Time feels different in college, right? So is it plentiful, wide-open, and free? Slammed? Crammed? Spent? or all of the above? Attend this event to develop time-management strategies, an accurate perspective of time in college, and a plan to maintain balance of your work and play in college.

Gain useful insight and strategies to ensure your success in Chemistry at the college level.

Sept. 21 [7-9pm] Building Bridges, Memorial Grand Hall--Presenter(s) Faculty and Various Leaders on Campus, Host: Martha Matlock & Azura Morgan, University Housing C.L.A.S.S. Advocates,
Attend this event designed to give first year residents a chance to connect with professors and leaders on campus.

Sept. 22 [4:00pm] Efficient Reading Strategies, Brumby Hall Multipurpose Room— Presenter / Host: Keith Allen, Academic Enhancement
Overwhelmed by the amount of reading required for each class in college? Attend this event to learn how to actively read with a purpose, stay engaged with the material, and develop strategies to improve learning and retention of information.

Sept. 26 [6:00pm] Major Questions: Choosing and Using Your Major, Creswell TV Lounge—Presenter / Host: Nikki Smith, Career Development
One of the toughest decisions college students face is choosing a major. Attend this workshop to learn the process for determining a major that is right for you and to learn about what career choices are available for the academic areas you are considering.

Soar through mid-terms by learning how to study and succeed on different types of exams and tests.

Sept. 29 [4:00pm] Make the Most of Advising, Brumby Hall Multipurpose Room—Presenter/Host: Amber Fetner & Fran Herin, Franklin College Academic Advising
Come hear from Franklin College Advisors about how to make the most of each of your advising appointments and other academic resources available to you.

Oct. 4 [4:00pm] Test Anxiety and Test Preparation, Brumby Hall Multipurpose Room—Presenter: Ann Glauser, Ph.D., Academic Enhancement—Host: Keith Allen
Learn how to develop strategies to reduce test anxiety, to manage and control your thoughts, and to improve your performance and learning outcomes.

Oct. 5 [4:00pm] Academic Honesty / Research Tools & Resources, RAC Room 395—Presenters: Deborah Bell, Office of the Vice-President for Instruction, & Diane Trapp, UGA Libraries—Host: Keith Allen
Gain clarity on plagiarism, academic honesty, and how to utilize the research tools and resources available online and at various libraries on campus.

Gain clarity and get answers to your questions on what changes have occurred with the Hope Scholarship this year. Understand now what you must do to maintain the Hope scholarship.

Oct. 6 [7pm] Professor Expectations: Differences between College & High School Coursework, Russell Academic Center Room 395—Presenter / Host: Elizabeth Hardaway, Ph.D., Attend this session to understand better the depth of learning required to succeed in college compared to what was required of you in high school.

Come here a panel of professors talk about the best way to engage, communicate, and access their expertise both in and out of the classroom.

Oct. 12 [5:00pm] How to Edit Your Own Paper—Russell Hall Academic Center Room #393—Presenter: Molly Moran, Ph.D., Academic Enhancement—Host: Keith Allen
Come get helpful hints and best practices on how to edit and revise your papers for clarity, structure, accuracy, and relevance for all of your classes.

Oct. 12 [6:00pm] Computer Safety, Creswell Hall TV Lounge—Presenter: Laura Heilman, EITS—Host: Diana Fruth
Avoid computer crashes and loss of your hard work as you learn best practices and the necessary ways to protect your computer, data, and assignments.

Oct. 18[6:00pm] Stress & Your Body, Brumby Hall—Presenter: Gloria Varley, UGA Health Center—Host: Keith Allen
Come hear Gloria Varley of the UGA Health Center about how to manage stress and avoid burnout in college.

Instructors, if you would like to have your students attend a workshop as part of a class assignment or to offer extra credit to students for attending workshops, please contact Keith Allen at khallen@uga.edu before the scheduled workshop date.

In addition to our regularly scheduled workshop series, we provide workshops on the topics listed above to campus organizations on a limited basis. If you would like to schedule a workshop for your organization, please contact us as early as possible before you would like to host the workshop.
